James E. Cary Cancer Center Receives ACR Accreditation

The James E. Cary Cancer Center in Hannibal, MO has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in Radiation Oncology as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology. No other cancer center within 100 miles of Hannibal has earned this coveted accreditation.

John C. Grossmeier, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hannibal Regional Hospital, said, “To have Hannibal Regional Hospital’s Radiation Oncology Department accredited by the American College of Radiology is a wonderful accomplishment. Very sincere appreciation goes out to every member of our team involved in the achievement of this mark of accomplishment, which is not easily attained, but a tremendous validation of their commitment and results.”

In addition to this latest recognition, the James E. Cary Cancer Center is also accredited by the American College of Surgeons, Commission on Cancer and is a member of the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC).

“Specific congratulations are due to Dr. Joseph Bean, M.D., and his colleagues and staff,” Grossmeier continued. “He and the entire James E. Cary Cancer Center team deserve the excellent reputation they are creating.”

The James E. Cary Cancer Center, a community service of Hannibal Regional Hospital and The Hannibal Clinic, is committed to being the leader in the prevention, detection and treatment of specific cancer diseases. Multidisciplinary teams of health care professionals, with a broad range of expertise and experience, offer a comprehensive array of advanced technical and personalized care designed exclusively for each patient’s need.

The ACR, headquarters in Reston, VA, awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of their practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.
