Radiation Oncology Nursing

Your treatment with radiation oncology will be closely monitored by both Dr. Bean and our radiation oncology nurses. Belinda or Tori meets with each new patient and provides education on radiation therapy. Additionally, Belinda or Tori will assess each patient on a weekly basis during their radiation treatment. They are available whenever needed to answer questions. Belinda also helps to coordinates community cancer screenings.  Tori also facilitates the Break Free- Freedom from Smoking classes.

Radiation Therapists

Radiation therapists received highly technical training in the administration of radiation therapy. They will be the people you see every day during treatment. They will closely monitor you and the linear accelerator to ensure that you get the correct dose of radiation. Bob, Brenda and Lisa all regularly attend national conferences and are active in the American Society of Radiation Therapy.

Dosimetry

The Dosimetrist is responsible for determining how the dose of radiation ordered by the physician will get to the tumor site as effectively as possible. The dosimetrist works behind the scenes in close coordination with the radiation oncologist. In addition to being trained as a radiation therapist, the dosimetrist has considerable additional education in determining how to conform and shape the radiation beams to work best for each patient.

The physicist is responsible for ensuring the safety of every treatment for every patient and the reliability of all equipment relating to radiation therapy.  The physicist often works behind the scenes although they may be present during some radiation treatments.
